NeoOffice is an office suite for Mac that is based on OpenOffice and LibreOffice. With NeoOffice, you can view, edit, and save OpenOffice documents, LibreOffice documents, and simple Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. Two engineers created NeoOffice in 2003 when they made OpenOffice run natively on OS X for the first time.

NeoOffice also makes use of Mac's spell-checker to check spelling, and Address Book as an information source. The dialog boxes and menus use the Aqua interface from Mac. The relationship of sources used by NeoOffice is the same as the system's. Note: For Mac OS X 10.3 or later, equipped with Intel. NeoOffice is an office package for Mac based on OpenOffice and LibreOffice. With NeoOffice, you can view, edit and save OpenOffice documents, LibreOffice documents and simple Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. Two engineers created NeoOffice in 2003 when they made OpenOffice run natively on OS X for the first time.

Planamesa NeoOffice is an office suite similar to Microsoft Office but developed specifically for macOS. The program descended from OpenOffice.org and is closely related to LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice.

NeoOffice

The NeoOffice suite offers several applications that allow you to create and edit text documents, drawings, diagrams, presentations, and spreadsheets. It supports a wide array of office productivity file formats. Most notably, the suite can read and write most Microsoft Office XML file formats, such as .DOCX, .XLSX, and .PPTX.

As mentioned earlier, NeoOffice is similar to LibreOffice and OpenOffice, but is developed specifically for macOS. NeoOffice includes the use of the macOS “Gatekeeper” feature to protect you from installing malicious software, macOS “Versions” feature to allow you to restore previous versions of your document, and macOS text highlighting behavior to give you the same feel as other macOS applications.

Planamesa NeoOffice is a competent office suite. It is compatible with many industry-standard file formats and runs natively in macOS. However, NeoOffice is no longer offered as a free download (it requires purchase) and both Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice can now be run natively in macOS. So if you are looking for a free alternative to Microsoft Office for your Mac, OpenOffice or LibreOffice are better choices.

Neooffice Windows

Lately I’ve been doing more and more of my heavy-lifting word-processing on NeoOffice, rather than Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or anything else. (I’m finishing up a book, “The Internet of Elsewhere,” due out in Q1 2010.) I find NeoOffice to be much more responsive than anything else I’ve used—and heck, it’s free.

NeoOffice, as those of you keeping score at home may already know, is an offshoot of the OpenOffice project, which aims to bring free word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation and other capabilities to most common platforms. Version 3.0 includes pretty much all of double-O’s features, as well as a few more. That includes support for the Media Browser, trackpad gestures (if only I had a newer MacBook so I could try this one out!), image import from scanners and cameras, and grammar checking under OS X Leopard, among many others.

The download will run you about 400MB and there are separate installs for Intel and PPC chipsets. You’ll need OS X 10.4 or higher, at least 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of free hard drive space in order to run the program.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve a book to finish.
