Redbox, the company best known for its red movie vending machines, launched a free ad-supported live streaming TV service earlier this year, one you probably haven’t heard of. Bringing attention back to the service is a new announcement from Redbox revealing that Xbox One owners can now access this streaming service through their consoles.
Xbox One And X UK. Posted by 3 days ago. Xbox One And X UK. Hi just wondered if anybody in the UK knows if it's possible too connect your Sky Box too your Xbox or Xbox Series X? And just run the box through the xbox. Imagine in 2020 a company the size of Sky, owned by an even bigger company in Comcast, still offering such a sub-standard service for customers who pay alot of money each month for their services and still, you can't even offer an app that forces the XBOX ONE to output at 50Hz like the BT SPORT app does, which offers 1080p and 50FPS.
The Xbox One is officially the first gaming console to get support for Redbox Free Live TV, the streaming service that joins similar offerings like Pluto TV. Free streaming TV services have become increasingly popular as consumers have grown weary of paying for new services, ones that largely contribute to the fragmentation of the streaming market.
With a Cable or Satellite Subscription: If you have cable or satellite TV service, you can connect your Xbox One to your cable box. You hook everything up so that the Xbox One can control your cable box by sending infrared signals, and you can watch TV directly on your Xbox One.
As we detailed back in February, Redbox Free Streaming TV gives users access to mostly older shows and movies split up into “channels.” The content is presented with a cable-like channel guide with genres covering everything from news and sports to comedy, reality TV, and kids shows.
The service was very slim when it launched earlier this year, but appears to have been fleshed out a bit, making it notable as a free streaming option. Channels currently listed on the service — which can be accessed directly in a web browser — include things like Pac-12 Classics, Docurama, Cheddar, Black News Channel, CONtv, and more.
In addition to accessing the service through web browsers, anyone can download the Redbox on Android and iOS to watch the service on mobile. Likewise, Redbox offers apps for a number of other platforms, including Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast and smart TVs from companies like Vizio, Samsung, and LG. The Xbox One has joined this list.
Story Timeline
Sky is reportedly considering selling the new Xbox One console alongside Sky TV subscriptions.
According to inside sources, Sky is in talks with Microsoft on deals which would see Sky customers able to opt for an Xbox One instead of getting a Sky+ HD box.
It’s thought that you’ll be able to record shows directly to the Xbox One’s hard drive, meaning you’d need just one home entertainment devices for games, TV and on-demand content.
Satellite operator SES has recently been showing off its new SAT>IP system. In a nutshell, this means that the Xbox One wouldn’t even need a satellite tuner to act as a Sky+ HD box, meaning it’s a distinct possibility.
Gaming site MCV, which broke the story, speculates that we could hear official confirmation at E3 this Monday.
The next-gen games console from Microsoft, announced last month, has some impressive TV credentials alongside an upgraded Kinect and eye-melting graphics. At the launch event, the Xbox One was demoed working in tandem with Comcast cable TV in the US.
Sky has enjoyed a good relationship with Microsoft, quickly launching Sky Go (formerly the Sky Player) on Xbox 360.
The satellite broadcaster said after the the Xbox One reveal: “We enjoy a long track-record of innovating with Microsoft on the Xbox platform and will explore any future opportunities offered by Xbox One.”
Tv From Sky Xbox One Plus
We’ve yet to hear back from Sky spokespeople about this deal. If the rumours about E3 are true, it should only be a matter of days before we know for sure.
Update: Sadly, it’s not to be. Sky has come straight out and denied that this is happening. A spokesperson said:
Tv From Sky Xbox One Not Working
“We have no plans to sell Xbox hardware as part of a Sky subscription. We have a longstanding partnership with Microsoft by which we distribute our content via Sky Go and Now TV on Xbox. We look forward to continuing to work with them as part of our commitment to giving our customers more ways to watch Sky programming in addition to their Sky+ HD box.”
